Why choose this tour ?

This day tour is the shorter version of the 10 hrs "Wachau – Romantic Danube Valley Tour" but it is bookable the entire year because the boat ride, which is scheduled only from May to September, is not foreseen here as well as a visit at a Heuriger. The tour offers guests an incomparable insight into a picturesque and richly historic landscape. Heading out of Vienna, the tour travels west towards the town of Melk, home to Austria’s most impressive Baroque Benedictine Abbey. Whichever route your tour takes, you will find yourself passing through villages amongst wine terraces clinging to the steep hills behind them, until you eventually reach Dürnstein, famous as the site of the legend of Richard the Lionheart’s imprisonment and the troubadour Blondel who found the King and arranged for him to be freed. From here, passing through medieval towns beside the Danube, you soon reach Krems, at the heart of the Wachau. After that the tour will return to Vienna.

What makes Wachau Sightseeing Tour a unique experience ?

The city of Dürnstein and the ruin of the medieval castle are one of the most prominent sightseeing points in the Wachau, made famous in part by being the place of imprisonment for Richard I of England. It will take us 60 minutes from Vienna to Dürnstein where we stroll through the historical part for 20 minutes.

Weißenkirchen is supposedly home to the Riesling vines, a wine typical to the region of the Wachau valley.

The church is one of the oldest in upper Austria, dating back to the early 10th century. With its still functioning organ it´s a well used spot for concerts and weddings.

Located in the heart of the Wachau valley the town offers attractions such as the late gothic three aisled church from the 15th century and is an excellent starting point for hikes and excursions in the region.

The castle ruin, 300m above the right bank of the danube, dates back to the start of the 12th century. Infamous for its escape-proof prison, the "Rosengärtlein", the ruin is a favourite among the visitors to the danube valley.

With its historical center and amazing view of Melk Abbey, this picturesque town is worth passing through for the view alone.

This Benedectine Abbey and UESCO heritage site is the highlight of every Wachau trip. With its distinct color and place atop a hill the abbey is considered to be the biggest monastery complex of the austrian baroque and the landmark of the Wachau Valley. The abbey park with the baroque pavillion with designs by Bergl is another special spot at this attraction.

With its old town also being part of the UNESCO Wolrd Heritage site Krems is another fixture of your visit. One of the landmarks is the Steiner Tor, a former city gate, as well as the Krems Caricature Museum and the former monastery Und. Another interesting spot is Krems Harbour, it´s one of the biggest in Austria. From Melk we need 30 minutes to Krems where we can spend 30 minutes. After that we need 60 minutes back to Vienna.
