Continue straight. We’re heading towards Google’s Android Garden. We’ll park there to get a closer look at the garden’s sculptures and visit Google’s merch store.

The Computer History Museum houses the largest collection of computing artifacts in the world. The collection comprises nearly 90,000 objects and photos, 4,000 feet of cataloged documentation, and hundreds of gigabytes of software. All of it details the long and winding history of computers.

We’re approaching Apple’s Infinite Loop campus. This is one of Apple’s three campuses here in Silicon Valley. * If you’d like to see the other two, check out the two Alternate Stops on the map. I’d particularly recommend the Apple Spaceship which, while closed to the public, has a great Visitor Center next door.

In 2003, a Harvard sophomore created a “hot or not” program. Mark Zuckerberg wanted to let his fellow students judge photos of their female classmates to decide who was hotter. This was Facemash, and it immediately faced repercussions. Harvard nearly expelled Zuckerberg for the violation of personal privacy, and shut the juvenile program down. But it sparked a bigger idea.

Why not? * Well, this is the company that’s basically responsible for computers looking and acting the way they do today. They’re the reason there’s a computer in every home — and that’s what gave people access to all the Googles, Amazons, and Facebooks of the world.
