Fun tour for two starting from Durango old town, with its lively bars and interesting historical monuments, then up winding country roads to pretty neighbouring villages. Durango was founded in medieval times, and has over 700 years of history with a wealth of interesting cultural, religious and architectural heritage. There are some splendid churches including the Basilica of Santa María de Uribarri, with its enormous portico covering the old market square, and the Baroque arch and church of Santa Ana, in the riverside square of the same name which you will pass on this interesting and entertaining tour. Pick up and drop off from Durango station (on the regular Euskotren line Bilbao San Sebastián) or tourist office.

Tour continues from Durango up to the pretty village of Garai, with its famous holly oak (the ‘Encina de Etxeita’),with a circumference of 60 metres and said to be able to shelter a flock of 300 sheep! Stop at the viewpoint on the square and enjoy a splendid panorama of the Duranguesado mountains including Mugarra, Untzillatz and the towering Anboto, home of Mari, the lady of Anboto, an important figure in Basque mythology.

Stop At: 48215 Goiuria, Bizkaia, Spain
Tour continues from Garai on to Goiuria along winding country roads with views over the whole valley. The tour continues down the other side of the hill back to Durango where Rober will leave you at the train station or tourist office. You will have done a part of the GR38 Wine and Fish route from Oyón in the Rioja Alavesa to Bermeo on the coast.
