The village has been mentioned in written sources since the mid-17th century. It also appears on the map of 1801. Finds on the broader area indicate that it has been inhabited since the early Cycladic and Late Cycladic periods.
On the top of the mountain Profitis Ilias (prophet Elias), the highest point of Santorini at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level, there is a monastery of the same name. Even those who do not like to take photos will not resist the desire to take a few pictures from this amazing vantage point.
