What makes Private Shore Excursion: Rostock and Warnemuende a unique experience ?
Warnemünde is a Baltic seaside resort and a district of the city of Rostock. Founded in about 1200, Warnemünde was for centuries a small fishing village. Being a centre of maritime traffic, the district of Warnemünde comprises numerous navigational aids, the oldest being the lighthouse, built in 1897, and still currently in use. In the summer, the tower, approximately 37 meters (121 ft) high, allows visitors to enjoy an impressive view over the Baltic Sea and the northern districts of Rostock.
Kropeliner Strasse is Rostock's main pedestrian street, that begins at the historical Market square and runs east to the 14th-century Kröpeliner Tor, a former town gate.
Kropeliner Tor is located in the east end of Kropeliner Strasse. It's one of the oldest remaining gates of Germany, dating to 1270. The observation spot on the top offers the great panorama of the city center.
The remains of the old City Wall can be found in different areas of Rostock’s old town. The traditional medieval fortification structure used to protect the rich Hanseatic city from the invasions.
Rostock town hall was originally built in the 13th century in Brick Gothic style, but extensively transformed in the 18th century, with the addition of a Baroque façade and a banqueting hall. It's one of the town's main attractions, reminding of town's "golden" Hanseatic age.
St. Mary's Church or Marienkirche, on Ziegenmarkt, is an imposing 13th century Brick Gothic church. Inside there is a unique astronomical clock built in 1472 by Hans Düringer.
Founded in 1419, it is the third-oldest university in Germany. It is the oldest and largest university in continental northern Europe and the Baltic Sea area, and 8th oldest in Central Europe. Then you will find lunch at a local cafe (on your own), free time for a walk, shopping or sightseeing and return to Warnemuende by public train/tram.
