Now it is only the only vestige of Puerto Plata's colonial past. In the fortress you can walk between its walls and see the moat that surrounds them. Inside there is a small museum with some historical pieces. Although the most attractive of this place is the lighthouse of Puerto Plata, which dates from 1876, and which is more than 24 m high.
