Damaged during the French Revolution it was restored in the 19th century.

The Arc de Triomphe honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. The names of all French victories and generals You can see on its inner and outer surfaces. The construction was started by Napoleon Bonaparte 1806, halted during Bourbon Restoration and completed 1836 by the last French King Louis-Philippe. On 15 December 1840 Napoleon's remains brought from Saint Helena island passed under Arc de Triomphe on their way to Hotel des Invalides, where Napoleon Bonaparte was buried.
