The towers were cooling towers for the coal run power station supplying electricity to Johannesburg. The station was closed in 1998, and transformed into,sporting,entertainment and business center in 2008. The towers are used by businesses to advertise their products. Branding not permanent.
Hector Pieterson memorial museum depicts events of the 1976 Soweto Students' Uprisings and the struggle for democracy in South Africa. It interprets the memory,legacy,and history of the 1976 students' uprisings. Vilakazi street is the Popular attraction in Soweto for both locals and International guests. The houses of the two Nobel Prize winners former President Mandela and Archbishop Emeritus Tutu are situated in this street. Sakhumzi restaurant is situated in this street close to Mandela house. The restaurant is serving South African Cuisine Buffet lunch in the form of dumplings, rice,mealie porridge (pap), Samp and sour Sorghum porridge. Other meals served include , Beef stew, Chicken,Sausages( boerewors )Vegetables, Salads and desert. Lunch is optional.
We visit Mandela house in Vilakazi street. Mandela lived in this house with his family before his life imprisonment.
