Why choose this tour ?
You're welcome to come along on a journey westward from Helsinki alongside the old King's Road - one of my favorite routes for road trips. We'll drive through rural landscapes to explore remnants of medieval Raseborg castle and buildings of Fagervik ironworks, and their pictureque surroundings. On the way back, we'll make a detour towards the coast to take a 2-3 km walk in the natural park of Porkkala, where we can also climb a sightseeing tower with the archipelago view. There will be opportunities to get food and refreshments along the way, as well as a stop for lunch at a renowned local grill restaurant. Estimated total driving time is 3.5 hours, and we will spend another 4-5 hours outside the car. We'll be travelling in a compact personal car Citroen C3. Please note that I am not a professional tour guide, however, I'll do my best to share knowledge that I have about our destinations, as well as my experience of eight years living in and exploring Finland.

What makes Private Day Road Trip from Helsinki: Raseborg, Fagervik, Porkkala a unique experience ?
We'll investigate ruins of Raseborg castle, once built on an island, but nowadays located 2.5 km from the shoreline. The castle stood derelict for over three centuries before restoration work has begun in the very end of 19th century.
Second stop is Fagervik ironworks, founded in 1646 - at some point in history it had a leading role in Swedish iron industry, and nowadays it presents a picturesque destination for a walk.
Next is a stop for lunch at a local grill restaurant, surrounded by farm fields. The restaurant is renowned for traditional blazed salmon (loimulohi), however, it's a game of luck to taste the salmon, as they might run out of it earlier in the day. Other dishes they offer are not in the least worse, though! Please note: only meat and fish options are available here. There is a kids' playground at this stop.
Last point before returning to Helsinki is a natural park of Porkkala. We'll take a stroll through the forest to the coastline. Sightseeing (or birdwatching, to be precise) tower and a small cafe (opening hours vary) are available in the park. In the surrounding area roe deers are common to spot.
