Located on the Greater Caucasus mountain ridge, the reserve shelters more than 6,000 engraved images of prehistoric lifestyles, hunting, and animal and plant life, dating back between 5,000 and 40,000 years.

One of the most famous and popular tourist places of the "eternal flame” in Azerbaijan is the mountain of Yanar Dag. Actually, it is rather a hill than a mountain, with natural gas burning on its slope from ancient times.
